Wiz khalifa wasnt acctually brn in Pittburgh. he was born in Minot, North Dakota, on september 8th 1987. Pittsburgh his just where he grew up and obviously here he represents. Wiz halifa just his stage name, his real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz. He was called "The Wiz" as nickname growing up because he was such a "WIz" at anything he attempted. apparently the name Wiz still fits. khalifa is an arabic name that signifies leadership. the american rapper based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, signed to Rostrum Records in 2004. In 2005, Wiz released his first official mixtape, Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania. and next year in 2006 he released his first full length street album entitled Show and Prove. Since then he released a further six mixtapes and a collaboration mixtape called "How Fly with friend Curren$y. He released his debut album, Deal or No Deal, in November of 2009, it reached #1 on iTunes hip hop chart, then reached the top 10 in iTunes' overall album chart the week it was released! He use to be signed to Warner Bros. records, he had left the lable in july, 2009 due to multiple delays in releasing his planned debut album for the label, First Flight. Wiz said to the Pittburgh Post-Gazette that I learned a lot during my time there and matured as an artist during the process. He is also the founder of the rap crew Taylor Gang which includes his friends Kev Tha Hustler, Ekko, DJ Deez, aka Mr. Flyn the F@!k Out, Light, aka Ludy Boy, Freeze, aka Lido, Juicy J, and Big Lonnie, Smallz Money, and Gene Stovall. They derived the name from the fact they always used to wear Chuck Taylor shoes.
At age 14 with a few songs already written, Wiz already is getting compared with his unique wordplay and commanding voice. while he was influinced by some very well known rappers like Jay-z, Camron, and the Notorious B.I.G., Wiz was determined to be a well recognized music artis and be loved and revered by his fans.
Ready to take the next step, Wiz began his search for recording studios to record his new songs. He found one called ID LABS and the owner Eric Dan almost immediately recognizes Young Khalifa's talent, and showed Wiz to another native of Pittsburgh, Benjy Grinberg of Rostrum Records. Benjy too recognizes Wiz's talent that he possesed, and immediately brought him into the Rostrum family in 2002.
Soon after, Wiz began his accent into the music world in the Pittsburgh area. He has been drooled on all over by the award winning Pittsburgh Post-Gazette pop music critic, Ed Masley, as having “the skills, the looks, the confidence, the drive, and the charisma for the job.” The New Pittsburgh Courier says, “The combination of a young, charismatic M.C. with a slew of stop-and-rewind rhymes together with a local independent label with major industry connections has set the stage for a hip-hop artist representing Pittsburgh to reach superstar status for the first time ever.
